LAOS

Laos have an ever present record in the group stages of the AFF Suzuki Cup and regularly they cause the more fancied teams a few headaches with their adventurous style.

They drew 2-2 with Indonesia at the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, a late equaliser by Vendry Mofu denying Laos of all three points. It was a virtual carbon copy of their 2010 opener when Thailand striker Sarayoot "Joe Five Yards" Chaikamdee scored in stoppage time to level the score 2-2.

In their final group match in 2012, Laos gave Singapore an almighty scare by taking a two-goal first half lead before the Lions roared back to win a pulsating encounter 4-3.

Sandwiched between those uplifting performances was a 4-1 loss to defending champions Malaysia, a scenario that is familiar to the unpredictable Laos side.

In May’s AFC Challenge Cup in the Maldives, Laos grew in stature as the competition progressed. After going down 5-1 to Turkmenistan in the opener, there was a lot to admire about their play in a 2-0 loss to the Philippines.

Their best result was a 0-0 draw with a strong Afghanistan side in the final game and the experience they gained in the Maldives should stand them in good stead when they compete in the qualifying tournament for the AFF Suzuki Cup in October.
