After a 0-0 draw with old rivals Laos and a 4-2 victory over Timor Leste everything was riding on Cambodia's final game against The Philippines. A win would have seen them progress but a 0-0 draw coupled with Laos' 6-1 victory over Timor Leste, saw Cambodia lose out on goal difference ending the qualifying competition tied on five points with the Laotians and The Philippines.
The national team has had little exposure since then aside from an agonisingly close loss to Laos in Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Cambodia recorded a 4-2 victory at home in the first leg to go into the away tie on a high. However, Laos won 4-2 to take the match into extra time, which they won with two further goals.
Hok Sochetra will take charge of Cambodia at the forthcoming AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 qualifying competition after the Football Federation of Cambodia announced that the former striker will succeed Korean Lee Tae-hoon as national coach.
Nickname(s): The Royal Khmer, Angkor Warriors
National coach: Hok Sochetra
