Their poor performances in the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup were particularly damaging as they resulted in them losing their seeding for the tournament and dropping down to the qualifying competition which they will host from October 5 to 13.
In the last edition, Myanmar finished bottom of Group B after losing to Vietnam (7-1), Singapore (2-1) and drawing with The Philippines (0-0). The manner of their demise was surprising with so many talented players failing to make an impact, in particular the normally potent Soe Myat Min.
Former Korean international Park Sung-hwa is the current coach of Myanmar and with the qualifying competition on home turf, he will be hoping for something of a renaissance from the one-time kings of Asean football.
