As co-hosts and defending champions, sharp focus will be on Malaysia in this year's AFF Suzuki Cup. Being crowned ASEAN champions for the first time with victory over old rivals Indonesia will be a hard act to follow but, for sure, the canny K. Rajagobal will prepare the team well.

Malaysia were sailing in unfamiliar waters in the showdown two years ago as they had only reached the final on one previous occasion - at the inaugural tournament in 1996 when they lost 1-0 to Thailand - but Rajagobal instilled a sense of purpose in the team and their 3-0 home win in the first leg saw them put one hand on the trophy.

Indonesia dominated early in the second leg at a seething Gelora Bung Karno Stadium but Safee Sali virtually killed off their hopes with a goal early in the second half before the home side notched a couple of consolation counters.

With an eye on the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, Rajagobal named the majority of the players that won the title in 2010 in his squad for friendly matches last month. Malaysia were given a taste of how tough it will be to defend their trophy with The Philippines holding them to a 1-1 draw in the first of the warm-up matches.

Better results followed with a 2-2 draw and a 2-0 defeat of long-time foes Singapore in the Causeway Challenge, captain Safiq Rahim scoring in both games with spectacular free kicks.
