Cambodia coach Sochetra steps down
24-Oct-2012

Hok Sochetra has taken responsibility for Cambodia’s failure to reach the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup by quitting as coach after less than four months in the post.
Sochetra, a former striker for the national side, had high hopes that Cambodia could qualify for the finals but his team finished bottom of the group at the qualifiers in Yangon.
They lost 5-1 to Timor Leste in their opening game before falling to Laos (1-0), Brunei (3-2) and Myanmar (3-0).
Myanmar and Laos both qualified for the AFF Suzuki Cup group stage to be co-hosted by Malaysia and Thailand from November 24-December 1.
The Phnom Penh Post reported that the 39-year-old Sochetra told the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) that he lacked the necessary experience to lead the national team.
Kul Sophanna, secretary-general of the FFC, said that they were not in a hurry to appoint a successor.
“We do not have any international competitions in the near future, so we still have time to think about the replacement,” he said.
