Four newcomers in Lions squad

Singapore coach Radjoko Avramovic has named a squad with a youthful flavour for the friendly with Hong Kong on August 15 which will launch the Lions' build-up to the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Eight of the squad are aged under 23 with four players - Nazrul Nazari and Shahfiq Ghani of Young Lions, together with Balestier Khalsa goalkeeper Joey Sim and Tampines Rovers' Jufri Thaha - uncapped.

Of the 25 players in the squad, 14 played for the Lions XII who recently finished runners-up in the Malaysian Super League.

While there is no place in the squad for Shahril Ishak, Agu Casmir and Safuwan Baharudin, who are all nursing injuries, the evergreen striker Aleksander Duric, tough-tackling midfielder Mustafic Fahrudin and veteran defenders Daniel Bennett and Baihakki Khaizan provide plenty of experience.

Three-time winners Singapore will meet defending champions Malaysia, 2010 runners-up Indonesia and the second-placed team from the qualifying tournament in Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup in November.
