Match Overview

The Azkals failed to earn maximum points for the second game running after drawing 2-2 with Indonesia.

It means they will have it all to do in the final match against Thailand if they want to avoid an early exit.

Still as things stand, all three teams in Group A – Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines have a chance of making it through to the semi finals.

The Philippines though, will be regretting not taking all three points after coming out strongly in the game.

A lack of concentration allowed Fachruddin Aryanto to score the opener in the seventh minute against the run of play though.

The Azkals came roaring back when Misagh Bahadoran equalised with a classic poachers’ goal, but the Azkals’ deficiency at the back allowed Indonesia to retake the lead in the 68th minute.

By then the Philippines poured forward in numbers, and in a game that had end-to-end action it played into Indonesia’s favour. The Garudas came close to sealing the game, but were denied by the woodwork instead.

Instead, it was Phil Younghusband, the Philippine captain, who rescued the hosts when he curled a free-kick superbly into the top corner to ensure a point for the Azkals.

7’ (1-0) Stefano Lilipaly’s teasing delivery from the free-kick is met by Fachruddin Aryanto, who out jumps Steuble to direct it into the roof of the net with a powerful header.

31’ (1-1) Misagh Bahadoran beats Kurnia Meiga to Schrock’s sweet-looking delivery and pokes the ball into the empty net. Poor defending from Indonesia.

68’ (2-1) Andik’s smacks the post with a ferocious effort, and Boaz Salossa was the first to react to the rebound and tapped it past a hapless Muller.

82’ (2-2) The pick of the lot from this match surely. Younghusband fired in the free-kick from right outside the box, and sent it flying into the top corner. Meiga had no chance of stopping.

Match Highlights

First chance –

Andik Vermansyah is allowed time and space outside the box four minutes in and tried a half volley which Muller deals with easily.

Good try from Steuble –

Receiving the ball from 25 yards out, make-shift right-back Martin Steuble shifted the ball onto his left foot before rifling it straight into Indonesia goalkeeper Kurnia Meiga.

Superb save –

Manuel Ott wriggled out of several challenges to create space for a shot, and it looked to be dipping in until Kurnia produced a wonderful tipping save in the 12th minute.

Sitter –

After Muller bails Philippines out by pushing a cross, the Azkals launched a counter and Schrock did well to pick out a teammate. However, Bahadoran side foots the attempt wide instead.

Another good save –

Mike Ott once again got past a few Indonesia defenders easily before trying to find the bottom corner, but Kurnia did well again to deal with the effort, which came after 25 minutes.

So close –

Boaz Salossa fired one from the edge of the area in the 33rd minute and Muller had to be alert to tip it out. Looked to be creeping into the bottom corner.

Boaz again –

Salossa got past two challenges down the left in the 39th minute before firing at goal, but Muller proved equal to it.

Another Kurnia save –

Shrock’s cross is headed out to Bahadoran on the edge of the area, and the Philippines forward’s outside foot attempt is pushed wide by Kurnia before bouncing out.

Philippines pressure –

Three minutes into the second half, Schrock is played in by Bahadoran, only to shoot into the side netting.

Great save from Muller –

Philippines’ offside trap breaks down and Lilipaly is allowed to run behind, but Muller somehow gets his fingertips to the shot and the ball rolls wide instead in the 58th minute.

Muller denies Indonesia again –

Evan Dimas cuts through the middle before firing a grounder, but Muller is there once again to save Philippines.

The post comes to Philippines’ rescue -

Andik makes another incisive run down the right before smacking an effort against the post from a very tight angle in the 61st minute. So close for Indonesia.

Not good enough from Younghusband –

With a free-kick from the dangerous area in the 75th minute, the Philippines captain sent it straight to Meiga, who deals with it by punching it away easily.

Indonesia not giving up –

Another good move saw Ferdinand send Lilipaly through, but the latter sent the ball rippling into the side-netting instead with two minutes left on the clock.

Muller saves Philippines again –

Muller once again made another big save, this time two minutes into injury time to deny Ferdinand’s long range effort that was headed for the bottom corner.
