VIENTIANE: A first-half hat-trick by Khim Borey helped Cambodia to a 4-2 win over Timor Leste on Sunday that kept the Indochinese side in contention for a place in the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010.

Chiquito Do Carmo gave the Timorese a surprise early lead in the qualifying round match at the National Sports Complex in Vientiane but Borey turned the match around with three goals in a 14-minute spell.

Substitute Nuth Sinoun netted Cambodia's fourth after the break but Anggissun cut the deficit with a well-struck free-kick in the dying minutes.

The result moved Cambodia up to four points from two games. Timor Leste have no points and are out of contention for a top-two spot and a place in the group stage of the tournament.

Timor Leste coach Pedro Correia De Almeida rang the changes in his team after their 0-5 defeat by Philippines in their opening match with six alterations to his starting line-up.

And it appeared to have the desired effect as the Timorese took a shock lead after five minutes. Chiquito ran on to a long through-ball from the halfway line and outpaced the Cambodian defence before coolly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Ouk Mic.

Borey should have brought the sides level midway through the half when his header from 10 metres cleared the crossbar. But the 21-year-old midfielder made amends in the 26th minute when he headed home the equaliser from close range.

The Cambodians took the lead three minutes later. Keo Sokngon took the ball to the right byline and cut it back for an unmarked Borey, who sidefooted the ball just inside the far post.

Borey completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute with a flicked header on the edge of the Timor Leste box that was mishandled by goalkeeper Leonel and crept into the net.

Borey went close to bagging another goal for himself in the 65th minute when his scuffed his effort wide after Khuon Laboravy's low cross had been missed by Leonel.

But a fourth Cambodian goal finally arrived in the 75th minute as Tum Saray cut the ball back from the left of the box for substitute Nuth Sinoun, who slammed the ball in from 15 metres.

Anggison did give the Timorese some cause for cheer with a late consolation goal, rifling a magnificent free-kick from 20 metres into the top left corner of the Cambodian net six minutes from time.
