Thailand name strong squad for All-Stars friendly
10-Aug-2012

Thailand coach Winfried Schafer has named a squad of 28 players for the match with the TPL All-Stars on August 15 as he begins the search for a winning formula ahead of the AFF Suzuki Cup in November.
The bulk of the squad are drawn from Thai Premier League champions Buriram, current leaders Muang Thong United and 2007 winners Chonburi who provide 21 players between them.
Veteran defender Niweat Siriwong, who answered a call from Schafer to come out of international retirement last year, exciting wing-back Teerathon Bunmathan, twins Suree and Surat Sukha, playmaker Datsakorn Thonglao and the mercurial Suchao Nutnum are all in the squad.
Teerasil Dangda, whose 14 goals have helped Muang Thong to top spot in the TPL this season, Chonburi captain Pipob On-mo and Kirati Keawsombut were named amongst the strikers but there was no place for Sarayoot “Joe Five Yards” Chaikamdee, who scored twice against Laos in the 2-2 draw at the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup.
Thailand failed to make it through to the knock-out stages two years ago and the three-time champions will be keen to make amends as they host 2008 champions Vietnam, the Philippines and the winners of the qualifying tournament in Group A.
