About Myanmar

As passionate a footballing nation as any in the region, Myanmar burst into prominence at the 2004 edition of the regional showpiece as they topped their group and then pushed eventual champions Singapore all the way in the semifinals, only to lose in extra time in the second leg.

The nation wasn’t able to build upon that success over the next decade though, as they collected just one further win in the period from 2007-2014, before re-emerging as a genuine force as they reached the semis in the 2016 edition that they also hosted for the first time.

Further impressive performances followed as they won two and drew another of their four group stage matches at the previous edition of the tournament and hopes are high that the nation will again be able to push deep into the knockout stages.

With the vastly experienced German coach Antoine Hey in charge for a second successive finals, he’ll know exactly what’s required to help lead this group of exciting young talents to prominence on the regional stage.
