About Thailand

The numbers speak for themselves in highlighting Southeast Asia’s most successful nation: five AFF Suzuki Cup titles, three times having finished as runners-up and having only twice failed to at least reach the semifinals.

The War Elephants have set a benchmark for excellence in the region and will surely be one of the favourites to collect a sixth title when things get underway in Singapore.

Remarkably, Thailand have only lost 11 matches across the 25-year history of the tournament and have produced a galaxy of stars that have shone bright: six times they’ve had a player win the Golden Boot whilst four have claimed the MVP award.

Expectations and pressure then are both high for new coach Alexandre Polking with the Brazilian-German coach having only taken up his role in late September.

He is though no stranger to Thai football, having worked in the country for close to a decade, and with a star-studded squad of players who are dazzling in both the domestic and foreign leagues, Thailand are very much the team to beat in Singapore.
